Works by Sima Khorrami
The following images were made as a project by the artist to document visual events found at random in the surrounding neighbourhoods. The subjects range from small, quirky found objects made or placed by residents, to larger street images, all photographed with astonishing artistic sensitivity. The images are firstly a documentary series, but the artist moves beyond the ordinary documentation that photographs provide. They are superior technically, they are incredibly good formally (meaning composition, use of colour), they are dense metaphorically (use of allusion and symbol- eg. the use of windowpanes), and in content (each image telling about the resident responsible for creating the visual incident). Each image is worth a story.
Titled "Forever", this work was shown at Modern Painters in 2014 and again at the Spruce Grove Library. We nominated Sima and the show for an Eldon Foote Exhibition of the Year award.
The images are digitally printed on artpaper with archival inks, and framed simply with archival mats.
